Urban design on display as work on North East Link tunnels ramps up

The Urban and Landscape Plan (UDLP) for the North East Link Tunnels is on display for comment prior to major construction.

Before major construction of the North East Link tunnels begins, we are asking the local community what they think of the look and feel of what is planned for their area.

The Urban and Landscape Plan (UDLP) shows designs from Watsonia to Bulleen, including new parks, walking and cycling paths and improvements to local roads. The plan also includes upgrades to the Eastern Freeway at Bulleen and Balwyn North.

With longer 6.5km tunnels to Watsonia in response to community feedback, plus a new tree-lined boulevard on Greensborough Road, simpler interchanges and new open space, people can see maps and detailed drawings and have a say in the design features in their area. .

The detailed designs come as we prepare to set up construction complexes at Watsonia, Macleod and Yallambie to support major tunneling works and begin constructing the Tunnel Boring Machine Launch Pad (TBM) at Watsonia.

The UDLP for the North East Link tunnels is available for public comment at Engage Victoria from Wednesday 11 May 2022 until 5pm, Tuesday 31 May 2022.

The plan is also on display at walk-in community information sessions every Thursday evening and Saturday until the end of May, and can be viewed at local council offices and libraries.

We will use what we hear from the submissions to update the UDLP before it is submitted to the Minister of Planning for approval ahead of major tunnel works.
