About the role

You will be part of the Council’s Regeneration and Economic Development team, working closely with the Strategic Urban Design Officer and Department Heads on a wide range of projects.

The purpose of the role is to support the Council in delivering high quality insight on urban design, place-making and architectural projects within the Regeneration and Economic Development team. This will be done by working with all regional teams (as well as other service areas of the Council) on strategic urban design and architectural projects, and assisting in the delivery of a range of design focused proposals .

The position will lead, manage or advise on the development and progress of master plans, and provide services and support to area teams through the preparation of site/design briefs, design-led feasibility studies and option assessments, reviewing the design of development proposals, and working with partners, including residents, local stakeholders and members, to deliver a range of place-making projects in Haringey. You will also work on location-specific research and develop or define design guidance documents.

You will be part of a small design team to improve the ‘design culture’ within the regeneration and economic development team and wider management – the position will play a key role in promoting and demonstrating of the many benefits of best practices and governance in design. of the built environment and good placemaking.

You will be in a unique position to:

  • Provide expert design advice and support to the council’s regeneration team to ensure that all regeneration projects, covering a range of urban design, public realm, architectural and of housing, are developed and delivered with the highest quality of design.
  • Lead, advise and manage design elements of Council Regeneration Master Plans, prepare site studies and briefs, provide client side review on proposal design development and work closely with others to achieve a range of high-quality place-making projects.
  • Promote high quality, innovative design results in all aspects of Regeneration Teams projects that are both sustainable and inclusive, and ensure that the appropriate design quality management/governance processes are in place for each project.

You will be required to operate at a level consistent with the responsibilities of this position at each point of progression.

About you

The successful candidate should be able to work on a wide range and large scale of projects, work with a variety of stakeholders and internal partners, and be responsible for advising and leading urban design, architecture and public domain works in Haringey regeneration areas. .

You must have the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill this role, as stated in the personal specifications of the job description.

This is a professional role, requiring degrees in architecture (ideally with RIBA qualifications), urban design or landscape architecture which requires a range of skills and behaviors to ensure high quality results.

You will have the confidence and proven ability to advocate for design, and can regularly liaise with senior management, elected members and a wide range of stakeholders.
