Project manager – Design/Urban planning


We are looking for a Project Manager/Planner to join our talented and dynamic urban design team in Atlanta. The position is located in Atlanta, but we would love to consider candidates outside of our local market who are considering relocation. Like a Project Manager/Planner in the Atlanta studio, you will:

  • Understand design philosophies, general building design concepts, design software technology and delivery methods.
  • Manage project teams, foster collaboration, and demonstrate strong and effective communication and leadership that inspires high team performance, design ideas, and successful project delivery.
  • Prepare and negotiate proposals, fees, schedules and contracts for clients and consultants.
  • Lead development efforts, validation and negotiation of project scope and fees, budget and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process.
  • Monitor performance of the project team and approach to ensure our quality standards and design goals are met.
  • Be the primary coordinator of all communication between the client and Perkins&Will (including the Managing Director, Design Manager and Technical Director) ensuring prompt resolution of client concerns and management of business issues including contracts and additional services.
  • Be responsible for meeting or exceeding established financial targets for the project and providing timely and appropriate information to the project accountant to initiate invoicing.
  • Analyze sites, programs and other key project elements through quantitative and qualitative means.
  • Develop analytical and design drawings throughout the design process using analog (by sketching and physical modeling) and digital (by digital analyses, sketching and modeling) means.
  • Strategize, sketch, model, and develop design documentation, including the creation and interpretation of maps and diagrams, blueprint reports, design guidelines, and ready-to-use presentation materials.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project deliverables.
  • Review, assess and incorporate zoning and policy requirements into project design.
  • Develop strategies for key urban settings and systems, including but not limited to circulation, open spaces, buildings and infrastructure.
  • Participate in marketing opportunities and start building successful customer experiences.
  • Collaborate with client and/or audience to create strategic planning options.
  • Lead discussions and presentations with clients and the public related to the project.

To join us, you must have:

  • A professional degree in urban design, architecture or a related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience.
  • Mastery of modeling, visualization and 3D graphics software; Strongly preferred revit.
  • Advanced knowledge in programming, planning and site analysis.
  • Experience in all phases and aspects of a project.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills, attention to detail and motivation to learn.
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • LEED AP or achieved within 6 months of hire.
  • Permit preferred.
