Maison Taula, named after the Sanskrit word for balance, stands at the crossroads of contrasts. Summons and isolation. Materials of construction “Money is not an object” and minimalist presentation. Interior and exterior sight lines. AIA architect Michael Gooden of M Gooden Design applied the principle of Hindu architecture of Vastu shastra, literally translated as architectural scienceto the design of this impressive home.
That’s a lot of rooms – over 10,000 square feet of space on just under an acre with six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a finished basement, a lap pool – and yet they are all premeditated, forming an opulent and modern harmony, but ultimately at the service of the family.
And this feat of modern design goes on sale right here in Preston Hollow.
Listing agent Fahrin Aziz of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate knows the house personally.
“The best part of Taula House is the family that lives there. I was there to see them build it, and then watch them grow,” she explains. “It is an honor to find the next family in this special home.”
From the expansive rooftop space to hushed interior destinations like the affectionately named “homework nook” next to the kitchen, every space has an unambiguous purpose.
The most striking example is the space for grandparents: special quarters combining a bedroom, a bathroom and a library, far enough apart to allow a quiet rest in the afternoon. How would that suit your in-laws? Sounds like a win-win, right?
“The house just flows,” Aziz continues. “The prayer hall is not far from the front passage, which also connects to the stairs leading to the wine cellar. The children’s bedrooms face each other. The kitchen is connected to a butler’s pantry. Everything is intuitive.
The exterior of the house is formed of precast concrete, weathered steel and dark gray basalt stone with accents of Brazilian ipe wood, polished stucco and zinc composite panel. The palette of the home’s interior is enhanced by sunlight, bringing out the natural hues of the hardwood floor.
Even the garage is a space of harmony (by which we mean you can fit six cars there). Outside, there is an expansive backyard and side yard, perfect for one of the most indispensable parts of the family: pets. The lap pool is 55 feet long and the outdoor rooftop and balcony entertaining areas total over 2,000 square feet.
You’ll never run out of private or public space, and even amid the minimalist calm of the home’s finish, there’s abundant beauty in the soft surfaces and colors. This home manages to serve you with a room that is a monument to any mood you might be in.
