Text description provided by the architects. The Muraka at Conrad Maldives, the Underwater Residence is a two-level structure consisting of an above sea level space and an underwater suite designed for sleeping below the ocean surface. The Underwater Suite includes a king-size bedroom, living room, bathroom and walk-in closet. The ground level of the underwater chamber sits five meters (16.4 feet) below sea level, providing an unobstructed view of the surrounding marine environment, which provides a panoramic view of the wonders of life marine complex of the Indian Ocean.

More than half of the wall and ceiling surface is covered with 7” thick clear acrylic to visually connect the exterior and the suite. The underwater spaces extend over 100 square meters and are accessible by the spiral staircase and an elevator from a lounge on stilts. In order to minimize the inevitable look of heavy steel and concrete, the majority of the interior spaces are covered in leather and the floor is covered with carpet, with which sound reverberation is also minimized.

The interior design and many finishing details were inspired by luxury aircraft cabins. Every part of the interior was carefully measured, modulated, simulated and installed. Although it is the only underwater chamber in the area, automated privacy screens are built into all windows and controlled with a tablet in conjunction with a lighting system, similar to those in cabins. luxury plane.

The Maldives is known for its pristine beach and sea. The ocean views are breathtaking, but that’s only half the beauty of the Maldives. The other half exists underwater. There is an underwater ecosystem that is worth showing visitors without diving into the sea. Creating safe places where people can calmly observe marine life would help draw attention to what is happening in the sea. , to recognize changes and to be inspired.
