Joining the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design as a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, you will be responsible for delivering education at the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art (BIFCA) based in Wuhan, China. The Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art (BIFCA) is a collaboration between Wuhan Textile University and Birmingham City University, combining the expertise of both institutions to offer a number of creative courses in state-of-the-art facilities in Wuhan, China. BIFCA’s educational commitment is expanding and we are looking for a lecturer to join our landscape architecture field to contribute to its continued development. The position offers a unique opportunity to live and work in a popular part of China on a 2 year fixed term contract.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Contribute to the teaching, learning and coordination of BIFCA’s Landscape Architecture curriculum at various levels of the undergraduate course, under the direction of the Course Director
- Ensure an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching and assessment methods
- Provide support and mentorship to individual students through our personal tutor system
- Preparing students choosing the 2+2 pathway for a successful transition to study in the UK
Other duties may include course and module administration, study trips and liaison with the UK course team and liaison tutor.
Successful candidates will have:
- Qualifications in landscape architecture and/or urban design at Bachelors level and preferably at Masters level (essential)
- Teaching experience in higher education (essential); industry experience is also welcome
- Excellent design and communication skills (essential)
- Strong management and organizational skills (essential)
- An ability to contribute to another area of the program such as history and theory, construction, skill building or professional studies (essential)
- Teaching experience in an international setting and ability to operate successfully in different cultures (desirable)
- Climate literacy and knowledge of sustainable design (desirable).

BIFCA is a collaborative effort between Birmingham City University and Wuhan Textile University, combining the expertise of both institutions to offer a number of creative arts courses at the fantastic campus in Wuhan, China. BIFCA offers all our talented and ambitious students access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the latest 3D design and multimedia production equipment, contained in a completely renovated 10,000 m² building. Students who successfully complete their programs at BIFCA can obtain a double award from BCU and WTU. With a series of innovative, creative, technology-driven and professionally oriented programs, BIFCA represents the new era of collaborative and quality-driven TNE (transnational education), meeting the needs of all stakeholders. Students can choose to study their entire program in China or study part of it in China and complete their program at BCU after their second year of study, 2+2. BIFCA offers three study programs: Digital Media Technology, Computer Architecture, landscape and visual communication. BIFCA also offers English language programs to support students.
